A. It looks like you hold the Fn key and hit the F2 key to toggle the (optional) 802.11 wireless on and off--if you have that capability installed on your machine. The legend for the system keys is here: Other views and illustrations of the layout of your laptop are here:

Why can't my laptop connect to public/free wifi?
Q. Whenever I'm at a local cafe or at a friends house for some reason my laptop can't, and won't, connect to the wireless internet network. I've looked through tons of websites, I even contacted customer support but since my laptop is out of warranty - they expect me to pay $70 for a 30 minute conversation! When I open up the Wireless internet it says: "No wireless networks were found in range." That can't be when I'm in the middle of my college library or a cafe and I know they have a network! Then it says: "Make sure the wireless switch on your computer is turned on. To see an updated list, click 'Refresh network list.' " I don't know where to locate said wireless switch and nothing else pops up under the refresh list. Under the… [cont.]

A. You do not need to use the bridge connection option, thats for something different. Bring up the connection that says not connected, right click on it and bring up the sub menu, then click on enable. There should be an option for "connect to any available network in range" or something similar. The pc should connect automatically to a public access point. Go here for more info... Simple Way to Connect to Wireless Network in Windows xp this should be close to the same for VISTA. Hope this helps.

Question about wiring a kill switch on a C1500 pick-up?
Q. I have a Chevy C1500 pick-up and I want to wire a wireless remote kill switch to interrupt the electric fuel pump. Where is the fuel pump relay? I think it might be under the dash behind the glovebox because I can always hear something clicking in that area when I turn the ignition switch on. Does anyone know if that is where the the fuel pump relay is located on my C1500? Behind the glovebox? Oh! Just one other question. I had a Sears DieHard Security battery for about a year or so until Sears sent me a letter saying that they was recalling all of DieHard Security batteries because of some sort of problem with them. I wasn't having any problem with mine but I took it back to Sears anyway and have been hoping ever since then that they… [cont.]

Can a Wireless Router connect to another Wireless router and extend an Internet Connnection?
Q. Ok here's the setup...: I have a modem connected to a wireless router downstairs. I was wondering if it is possible to buy a similar wireless router, put it upstairs and have that router connect to the router located downstairs. Then I figured I can use the 3 open slots left on the router upstairs to connect ethernet lines to my computers in my desk. If that's not possible, then is there a way to use a wireless access point to feed into a 5 port switch upstairs then the computers in my desk upstairs can connect to the switch and the switch is connected to the Wireless access point and in turn is connected to the wireless router downstairs. I simply wanted to avoid running ethernet wire all the way upstairs to a switch and also wanted… [cont.]

A. More information please. Just got the additional info. Lose the switch if you have a multiport router. You don't need it. Just run the RJ45 cable from the modem to the router. Then plug into the router and reboot the devices you should then be connected. If not unplug (electrical) the modem then unplug the router. Wait 30 seconds and plug in the modem first and then the router. Then plug in the devices and boot the devices. Good luck.

Now, I keep having problems with the wireless part of it. my desktop, and PS3 which are plugged into the router work fine. my laptop will connect, and it starts off at 270Mbps...within seconds it goes all the way down to 13.5Mbps. The router is and modem is all located on the same floor, I live in an apt. it does this even when I am in the same room as the router. I have tried to switch the channels on the router, I switched between narrow and wide. changed thru all the channels on both settings, and it does the same thing with all of the channels. A. I have the same router, numerous firmware updates have been released. It is still kinda a problematic router, but would be good to give those an update. Download them from Linksys.com and the instructions are on there. Just cause you can plug it in and work fine, doesn't mean the router is fine, just for reference. Wireless is a VERY temperamental technology. I would still make sure the firmware is up to date, even if it is new, as it could have sat on the shelf for a year before it got to you.

Post Reply: How effective would connecting an NAS device (to the router) via an ethernet bridge be?
Q. Maybe I didn't explain myself clearly enough. The router is located downstairs and not in my bedroom. I want to plug the NAS device into the routers ethernet port, but don't want to leave the NAS device downstairs as it may get stolen/ broken. So, I basically require a method which will allow the NAS device (from my bedroom) to access the router, without having a 30m ethernet cable running from my room to the router. The only ethernet ports in the entire house are on the router. I therefore need a device which I can store in my bedroom, which has an ethernet port and can connect wirelessly to our internet connection. This is why I originally mentioned another router as an option, as opposed to a switch mechanism. I need something… [cont.]

Getting a Windows XP computer to work with a Belkin N wireless router.?

Hence there will only be one entry point for internet in the building. Share this connection across ten computers. Here's what I made so far. A. 1 - the wireless router is not only useless but a nuisance - a single router is enough. 2 - the easiest way is: modem - Router - for each floor a switch directly connected to the router - all pc's on the floor connected to their corresponding floor switch. If you need wireless just add a Wireless Access Point (connected to the switch) at each floor.

A. It may very well be that the stupid ISP (Charter?) was included as a dial-up ISP. Good for a trial period. Call the ISP and find out. If that's the case, tell the idiot to go to - - l l. I would get an ISP that at least kept you up to date. If that's not the problem, it could be any number of things, modem kaput, port kaput, comp kaput (somewhere). In any case, it worked, so it should work fine again. Also try re-setting the info for your protocols in settings of your browser, if you can.
