Youth is the period between childhood and adulthood, described as the period of physical and psychological development from the onset of puberty to maturity and early adulthood. Definitions of the specific age range that constitutes youth vary. An individual's actual maturity may not correspond to their chronological age, as immature individuals exist at all ages.

Usage

Around the world the terms "youth", "adolescent", "teenager", and "young person" are interchanged, often meaning the same thing, occasionally differentiated. Youth generally refers to a time of life that is neither childhood nor adulthood, but rather somewhere in-between. Youth also identifies a particular mindset of attitude, as in "He is very youthful". The term youth is also related to being young.

"This world demands the qualities of youth: not a time of life but a state of mind, a temper of the will, a quality of imagination, a predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the life of ease." - Robert Kennedy \

Youth is an alternative word to the scientifically-oriented adolescent and the common terms of teen and teenager. Another common title for youth is young person or young people.

Population aged under 15 years in 2005

Should I prioritize my youth development work?
Q. I am a Christian and Pakistani. Christians are in minority and not a developed community. I want to initiate an NGO for youth development work. I want to work for all youth, but I want to give importance to Christian youth. Is it alright? Or I should change my plan and work for general youth: Muslim, Christian, Hindu etc.

A. it all depends what you mean by "giving importance", if you are a good role model, young people will tend to want to be like you. the important thing is not, in my opinion, your religion, but your ethics; i personnaly have found that religious groups can be elitist and righteous; this does not allow for the flexibility of mind you do need to do sustainable youth work.

What are some good stories to mention when speaking to a group of Muslim youth?
Q. With about 2-3 minutes of speaking time, maybe just one story? It's going to be at a picnic for the youth of our community, and we're trying to encourage them to come to the Masjid more often, and we're going to have weekly youth group meetings. So, what kind of story from Islamic history would be interesting or motivational for youth to gain interest in being active?
